IP (Internet Protocol): ProTech Security is progressive in its approach to security. Our main emphasis in the area of new work is IP (Internet Protocol)-based technology, whether it involves ACCESS CONTROL, VIDEO SURVEILLANCEINTRUSION, or the INTEGRATION of all these and other subsystems within the facility.

IP technology allows ProTech clients to view and interact with any aspect of their electronic security system. Because this approach centers on computer networking, they can perform any security-related function using any computer terminal within reach with proper network access.

From an installation standpoint, IP-based devices simplify and reduce the cost of installation. For example, instead of running a dedicated cable to each security device, IP technology allows ProTech to use a single computer network to transmit data from one end of the facility to the other, many times using your existing local area network (LAN).

This approach reduces the overall cost of the system because it requires less labor. It also makes adding one or more devices much more cost effective because most of the necessary cable are already in place. When a new device is installed, a ProTech technician places a network interface card (NIC) anywhere on the existing network, usually near the additional device.

System Integration: System integration is the act of interconnecting two or more security systems so the net outcome renders more benefits and functions than the individual systems could possibly provide on their own. For example, VIDEO SURVEILLANCE cameras can be made to automatically pan and tilt so the client can quickly see activity occurring in a remote part of the facility, such as when someone swipes an expired ACCESS CONTROL card.

The nonintegrated approach requires that someone on site manually position cameras to do this—providing they’re fast and they know the system well enough. The same arrangement can be used after the fact by management. This feature also allows the client to find out who entered the facility after hours and disarmed the alarm system using a digital video recorder (DVR).

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE cameras can also be used to verify FIRE ALARM signals. Using SI, when a fire alarm occurs, an electrical connection between the fire alarm and video control systems can be made to cause the nearest camera to the affected area to show the operator all activities. And when the camera happens to be that of an IP-based digital model by Mobotix AG, management can check the ambient temperature in the affected area using an onboard temperature sensor built into the camera.

The possibilities are limitless when ProTech installs an integrated security system. Because this type of system employs computer technology, chances are the system you install today will continue to serve your needs while growing by leaps and bounds tomorrow.

Residential System Integration: In residential, SI offers a number of advantages over the use of the disassociated, stand-alone approach that other security companies use. Examples include the use of lighting in conjunction with intrusion detection to make a home safer and more secure than was possible in the past.

SI can also interface video cameras with a home computer to send key images of a home burglary in progress to another location using e-mail or a broadband connection with a wide area network (WAN). They can also be stored on a hard drive for later use.

SI in residential also includes real-time advantages, such as the placement of video images on ordinary television sets throughout the home. An integrated security system will also allow clients to use their integrated home security system to look in on their home from time to time when they are away. They can also control their lights and the temperature of their home using the same using either a hard-line or cellular telephone.

Access Control Systems: The need to control physical access in business and institutional settings has never been as great as it is today. A typical access control system consists of one or more card readers, electric locks to control entry into the building, and an access controller to make decisions, such as who can enter, what door they can use, and what day and times they’re allowed to enter.

ProTech Security offers the latest in electronic access control for commercial, institutional and industrial use using the DMP and S2 Security line of control equipment. We use the HID brand of access card readers and Securitron for electric door locks. The potential number of users and doors is limitless as the systems that ProTech employs allow the flexibility of building to suite.

Intrusion Alarm: Intrusion alarm systems are designed to detect the entry of both authorized and unauthorized individuals. Traditionally, when it’s an authorized user, a valid pass code must be entered into a keypad near a designated entry/exit door. If this does not occur within a given time period the alarm system will go into alarm mode, alerting people locally and at a remote location.

ProTech Security offers the finest in intrusion alarm technology using the Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) line of products. DMP offers both addressable and analog technology, allowing ProTech professionals to target special needs and budgets. In addition, ProTech is a GE Security Pro dealer, offering the full line of GE Security intrusion products.

Video Surveillance: Video is fast becoming one of the most popular security measures in use today. Everywhere you turn there’s a camera—from the local grocery store to the biggest chain store. The popularity of video is largely due to the fact that when a crime is committed, the police now has a visual rendering of the perpetrator.

ProTech has a long history of providing video products to the local marketplace. Although we continue to support existing analog video installations, ProTech’s primary emphasis is on digital, especially IP (Internet Protocol) video.

ProTech is part of the GE Security Dealer program, offering digital video recorders by Integral Technologies. The firm also is an authorized distributor of S2 Security Corp. and Mobotix who makes the most comprehensive, technologically advanced IP cameras available today.

Fire Alarm: Life safety is an important aspect of personal protection and the fire alarm system is at the forefront of modern day fire protection efforts at all levels. In residential applications National Fire Alarm Code (NFAC) requires an automatic smoke detector on every level of the home, including all common bedroom hallways. In new construction NFAC requires smoke detectors in every bedroom. As a GE MirTone dealer, ProTech offers the finest in fire detection technology available.

Application Programming Interface (API): When designers talk about an API, they’re talking about programming source code that allows your computer to interface with a series of applications. APIs are used to make a variety of security hardware function in WindowsTM. This makes it more convenient to operate these systems because most of us are already familiar with how Windows works.

“Microsoft Windows APIs come with the operating system for anyone to use. Software for embedded systems such as video game consoles generally falls into the application-integrated category. While an official PlayStation API document may be interesting to read, it is of little use without its corresponding implementation, in the form of a separate library or software development kit (Wikipedia.org).”

APIs make it possible for many of the security systems that ProTech uses to communicate with any computer equipped with Windows.

Open Platform: In the old days, security manufacturers sought to protect their position in the marketplace by producing products that would only work with their own peripherals. This forced professional alarm companies to work exclusively within that particular manufacturer’s product line. Although this assured the manufacturer of a continuous relationship with both the installation firm and the end user (you), it limited overall capacity and functionality.

Today, professional security firms like ProTech expressly seek out operating platforms that can be integrated with other manufacturers’ wares. The result is a more robust security system that is capable of far more functionality and capacity than yesterday’s proprietary systems approach could possibly provide.

ProTech has taken considerable care to use interoperable products that can be fully integrated into a seamless, greatly expanded enterprise system. This strategy assures that the client gets the most for each dollar spent with ProTech Security.

Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP): Every time you use the Internet with your Internet browser program you are using TCP/IP technology. Just because a device is said to be IP-enabled does not mean it will transmit and receive signals over the Internet.

Where video security and other types of protection are employed, it’s often necessary to send data from one point to another using the Internet. The TCP/IP protocol makes this aim possible.
